Pumpkin Pizazz

Carving pumpkins was SO fun for me when I was younger... then it got a bit tiring when I was old enough to clean my own mess!! So I was all about decorating pumpkins without one of those cheap knife kits that swears those different tools actually carve, cut and saw differently! Check out the fun arts and craft time (shout out to Pinterest!) I had with these two smedium (small + medium) pumpkins I snatched!

It's been a while since I've featured a DIY project, so this is a perfect way to pop off my DIY skills (which are no way expertise)... tis the season!! Starting off very raw with my naked pumpkins...

First up is of course, Chevron inspired. Here are materials you need for the "Chevron Glitter Pumpkin"
  • Smedium pumpkin
  • Smedium paint brush
  • White paint
  • Masking tape
  • Glitter puffy paint (not pictured)

Steps are easy peasy, and kind of figured them out along the way...
  1. Create your own chevron pattern by cutting about 2" pieces of masking tape
  2. Layer the first coat of painting and let dry for about 15 minutes
  3. Apply the second coat of paint, and fill in any dark gaps so the paint appears as a solid color. Let dry for about half hour
  4. Carefully peel off the masking tape, piece by piece. As you can see, some of the paint peels off with the masking tape, so keyword is carefully peel it off.
** I didn't capture a picture of the next steps, but since I couldn't create a perfect line with my paintbrush, I decided to fill in the edged lines with a glitter puffy paint. I also added a bit to the top of the pumpkin and painted some swirls with the same glitter puffy paint.... And voila!

My second pumpkin was inspired by the glitz and glamour that I love so dearly! Here are materials you need for the "Sparkling Pumpkin"
  • Smedium pumpkin
  • Smedium sponge-like paint brush
  • Elmer's glue (possibly better turnout with clear glue)
  • White and gold glitter

  1. Apply rings of glue starting from the top
  2. Using the sponge paint brush thingie, blotch and spread the glue around. Continue to apply rings of glue working your way down the pumpkin, and continue to blotch and spread all the way to the bottom of the pumpkin
  3. Sprinkle your white glitter on first, then your gold glitter
  4. Transfer your pumpkin to another surface, and collect all excess glitter on your paper... cover the pumpkin with all that excess glitter by pouring it all over. Let it sit for about a half hour or until dry.
** Do not be shy with the glitter!! You can repeat the step of shaking excess glitter on your pumpkin as needed to cover the pumpkin to your liking. And voila!

Have you done any pumpkin painting/decor/carving lately? Please do share! After all... I can still use more pumpkins for Thanksgiving!!

Cute! I might just paint a pumpkin after we go to the pumpkin patch this week. Sounds like a nice alternative! Looks pretty, too!
